School Health Care serves in all matters related to the physical and mental health of a comprehensive school student.
The school nurse and doctor can be contacted through School Health Care. In all matters related to the well-being of a student the school nurse should be contacted first.
An appointment to the school doctor must always be arranged through the school nurse.
In urgent cases of illness and outside school hours the primary place for care is the student’s own local health station.
First-year students are called for a physical examination, but it is also possible to seek an appointment for a physical examination on one’s own initiative. In such case please contact the public health nurse of your academy.
Student Health Care provides health care services for students studying in upper secondary school and vocational school. The services are meant for students in lines of study which entitle student financial aid, with the following exceptions:

You can get additional information about the vaccinations you need by calling the Vaccination Advice for Tourists help number +358 040 674 8822. The helpline is available on Wednesdays between 13.00 and 15.00. The helpline is closed during weeks 1, 8, 23–32 and 52.

If your illness has lasted for over three months or is permanent, you have a right to receive medical supplies in accordance with your medical treatment plan free of charge. As a client of Turku health centre you can pre-order the supplies and reclaim them from the Medical Supplies Distribution pickup point after three weeks.
Both the Medical Supplies Distribution pickup point and nurses’ practice are located in the area of the Mäntymäki hospital. Book an appointment for a nurse if you need guidance in the use of medical supplies.
The vocational education of adults consists of basic degrees, which are completed by passing the competence-based qualifications, and of further vocational qualifications and specialist vocational qualifications. Young persons and adults can study the same basic degrees. Vocational further education and training as well as continuing education are possible at different phases of career. In addition to education institutions, learning also takes place at workplaces. The joint application system is not applied to competence-based qualifications that are primarily aimed at adults.
Apprenticeship training is a flexible and practical form of education where the student and the employer together make a contract of employment and training. The student must find the apprenticeship job him/herself.

Learning takes place mainly at the workplace with practical tasks, which is supplemented by studies at the institute.

Child care, conference services, or warm, freshly baked bread? The services of Turku Vocational Institute are easily attainable. At our Institute, you can have calling cards made, get your favourite trousers fixed, or get your tyres changed. These types of services offer our students opportunities to practice for the real working world. All work is carried out under the close guidance of a trained professional.

Hairdresser student Laura Baudini’s weeks in Turku
Spring brought not only sunshine but also a radiant visitor from the small French town of Villefranche de Rouergue near the Pyrenees. Her two-week visit to Finland and practical training at the Bleis Salon under the guidance of owner Heli Tikkanen evidently went swimmingly, because Laura Baudini says she would like to come back to Finland again.
Novia UAS is located at two addresses in Turku, at Henrikinkatu and Juhana Herttuan puistokatu where the maritime education is given. At Henrikinkatu there are students within several different fields. Prospective Bachelors of Social Services, Bachelors of Health Care, and Bachelors of Business Administration are gathered in the renovated campus.

School psychologists work in basic education, upper secondary schools and vocational institutions.
The parents, school or the student him/herself can contact the school psychologist when something related to the child’s development, upbringing, learning or emotional life raises concern. The school psychologist may be contacted by phone or through the Wilma student administration system.
The school psychologist conducts psychological examinations in order to detect learning difficulties, behavioural problems and concentration problems, for example.
Services supporting the well-being of children and adolescents consist of social and health services, services supporting studying and employment, and services promoting sports and physical exercise.
The aim of the services is to support the development and wellbeing of children and to give adolescents the skills and preconditions for a balanced life.
The goal of upper secondary school education is to give students wide-ranging all-round education. The upper secondary schools in Turku put emphasis on common responsibility for everyone and co-operation and interaction with the students' guardians.

The Immigrant Office provides health services for a period of up to three years to refugees and asylum seekers who have received a positive residence permit decision. Returnees from Ingria and the migrant spouses of refugees receive information on health care services and a medical check-up by a public health nurse. After this, health care services are provided by local health stations.
The Immigrant Office employs a doctor, four public health nurses, a practical nurse and a psychologist. A public health nurse will invite you for your first visit.
In the national core curriculum the schools and education institutions are encouraged to co-operate actively with companies and communities as a part of schoolwork and studying. The aim is to use multiform learning environments to increase know-how.
The management of the schools and education institutions as well as the teaching and education personnel need to be aware of the statutes concerning marketing and sponsorship when they are representing their school or education institution in corporate or community co-operation.
