VALMO is meant for students whose native languages are not Finnish or Swedish and prepares them for basic education. The students learn Finnish and other skills for approximately a year before transferring to local schools.
Students whose native languages are not Finnish or Swedish can choose between Finnish as a Second Language and Literature or Swedish as Second Language and Literature (S2).
OMO is education given in students’ native languages.
SUOMEN KIELEN ALKEIS- JA JATKOKURSSIT
Turun iltalukion Finnish for Foreigners -kurssit alkavat tiistaina 23.8.2022. Kursseilla opiskellaan suomea sen kaikilla osa-alueilla: puheen ymmärtämistä, puhumista, tekstin ymmärtämistä ja kirjoittamista. Tunneilla tehdään paljon paritöitä ja puheharjoituksia.
Suomen kielen alkeiskurssit FIN1–FIN5 pidetään tiistaisin ja torstaisin klo 16.15–17.35.
Kursseilla lähdetään liikkeelle aivan alusta, taitotasolta A1.1 ja edetään taitotasolle A1.3/A2.1. Kursseilla käytetään oppikirjaa Suomen mestari 1 (uudistettu painos 2020).

Café Navigare is an inviting summer café on the back deck of the ship, with a view to the riverside landscape of the Aura River.
The café serves fresh pastries, savoury snacks and refreshing beverages.
Navigare’s deck areas on both sides of the ship are used as a café terrace. They are also licenced areas for serving alcoholic drinks.

The ship has several elegant and traditional premises for holding various celebrations, meetings and banquets. Most of the restaurants are open only by prior arrangement.

The old henhouse in Kurala is available for hire. It is a unique place to host your birthday party, a conference, a lecture or a sporting event. You are free to organize your own catering and move the furniture around in the henhouse.

You should check the validity of your vaccinations six months before your planned trip abroad.
You can get additional information about the vaccinations you need by calling the Vaccination Advice for Tourists help number +358 040 674 8822. The helpline is available on Wednesdays between 13.00 and 15.00. The helpline is closed during weeks 1, 8, 23–32 and 52.

If your illness has lasted for over three months or is permanent, you have a right to receive medical supplies in accordance with your medical treatment plan free of charge. As a client of Turku health centre you can pre-order the supplies and reclaim them from the Medical Supplies Distribution pickup point after three weeks.
Both the Medical Supplies Distribution pickup point and nurses’ practice are located in the area of the Mäntymäki hospital. Book an appointment for a nurse if you need guidance in the use of medical supplies.

The Immigrant Office provides health services for a period of up to three years to refugees and asylum seekers who have received a positive residence permit decision. Returnees from Ingria and the migrant spouses of refugees receive information on health care services and a medical check-up by a public health nurse. After this, health care services are provided by local health stations.
The Immigrant Office employs a doctor, four public health nurses, a practical nurse and a psychologist. A public health nurse will invite you for your first visit.

Education at Turku International School
Turku International School is an educational institution maintained by the City of Turku, with English as its teaching language. Turku International School offers primary (grades 1-6), secondary (grades 7-9) and upper secondary education. The first two of these conform to the Finnish National Core Curriculum. The upper secondary education is based on the IB Diploma Programme.

Work and Livelihood includes services for unemployed residents of Turku. The aim of the services is to help people find employment and to secure their minimum income.
The services include counselling and guidance in finding employment, as well as rehabilitative work activities. Debt counsellors assist private households or small entrepreneurs with problems related to incurring of debt.
